Zambian dairy farmers in Central and Copperbelt Provinces worked with the Dairy Transformation Programme (ZDTP) to increase milk production and farm profitability from 2017.  They were joined, later, by farmers from Southern province.   Farmers improved their profitability by managing costs of production, improving livestock husbandry and introducing better milk hygiene practices.

The courses available at  - https://primeskills.online  - use the lessons learned by ZDTP members, project collaborators in the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MFL), milk processors and other organisations.  We have adapted ZDTP resources and relevant external material into online activities which are available in specially designed e-learning courses. These are for farm advisors and farmer trainers who wish to join our "Champions of Change" community of practice, and for small-scale dairy farmers, themselves.

Guests can look at course summary content; however, to benefit from the full experience you must enroll and follow the learning pathway.  The development of the e-learning site was supported as part of the ZDTP project by the New Zealand Aid  Programme / New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The purpose of this course is for participants to increase and develop their understanding of training and how to tailor training sessions to meet the needs of trainees and the training environment. This will enable participants to successfully transfer knowledge, practical skills and their experiences to Zambian small-scale dairy farmers.

The results of effective training will be to improve husbandry and management, increasing small-scale dairy farm sustainability and profitability.

The purpose of this course is to increase your knowledge and skills in small-scale dairy farming.  The farming topics are based upon a five-point dairy farming improvement plan, as applied during the Zambian Dairy Transformation Programme (ZDTP) from 2017 to 2023.  E-learning content was taken directly from project activities and outcomes with new material added where appropriate, including publicly available YouTube videos.

The course involves a mix of online learning with WhatsApp or other communications group discussions. We recommend that learning is led by a "Champions of Change" facilitator/trainer, who can also support face-to-face practical learning.  Practical activities should be organised locally, supporting one or more online topics as requested by trainees.
